August 26, 1892

The Plattsburgh Sentinel - Friday, August 26, 1892

--The Champlains badly defeated the Cuban Giants at Rouses Point on Friday afternoon. The score was 7 to 5.

--The Cuban Giants won the ball game on the government parade grounds, Saturday afternoon, defeating the Champlains by a score of five to three. It was an exciting contest and drew about seven hundred people to witness it.

--Cubian Giants and Hotel Champlains will cross bats at Rouses Point to-day.

--The Hotel Champlains won the ball game at Rouses Point, Wednesday, by a score of 17 to 3.

--The Cuban Giants defeated the Burlingtons at Burlington, on Wednesday, by a score of 1 to 0. The Free Press says the Burlingtons threw the game away.

The Plattsburgh Sentinel - Friday, July 22, 1892

--The U. V. M's defeated the Northampton by a score of 9 to 6 at Burlington, Thursday.

--The U. V. M's came off victorious in the game played against the Hotel Champlains at Burlington, Saturday, by a score of 3 to 0.

--In the ball game between the Port Henry's and the colored nine from Hotel Champlain, on the home grounds last week Thursday, the former were defeated by a score of 10 to 5.

--The game between the Beverwicks of Rouses Point and the Hotel Champlains, played at the former place on last Friday, was an exciting and enthusiastic game, resulting in favor of the Champlains by a score of 6 to 5.

--Saturday the Ponce de Leons will play a game of ball in Plattsburgh with the St. Albans club.

--The game between the Pastimes of Ogdensburg and the Beverwycks of Rouses Point, Saturday, resulted in a score of 6 to 9 in favor of the latter. About 500 people witnessed the (illegible).

--The Ponce de Leons and (illegible) will play a game at the Fair grounds in Plattsburgh this afternoon. This will be the first and probably the only opportunity our citizens will have of seeing the two rival clubs meet on neutral ground.

--A game of bass ball will be played on International Trotting Park in Champlain, on Monday, September 8th, between the Ponce de Leons, the colored nine from Hotel Champlain, and the Champlain nine. This is probably the last game the Ponce de Leons will play before their departure for Florida, and will be a close and exciting one.

--A female nine from Ohio will play at Rouses Point on Friday.

--The game between the Hotel Champlains of Bluff Point and the Beverwycks at Rouses Point last Friday resulted in a score of 9 to 17 in favor of the latter.

--The game between the Cuban Giants of New York and the Hotel Champlains, played at Plattsburgh last Saturday, was a bad defeat for the local club, the score standing 11 to 1.

--A special train will leave Plattsburgh at 1:30 P.M., on Friday for Rouses Point to convey those who desire to witness the game between the Female Nine and the Beverwycks, stopping at West Chazy and Chazy, and returning after the game. Fare for round trip, 50 cents.

--A new home team has been organized at Plattsburgh, with Heffernan and Hubbell pitchers, Hackett and Paul Smith catchers, George Stave, S. D. Curtis, Ned Baker, G. W. Hickey, F. K. Kyle, and S. V. Beckwith, fielders. The new team played a game with Hotel Champlain club yesterday afternoon, which resulted in a victory for the Plattsburghs, the score being 5 to 4.

--The Champlains of Bluff Point, composed entirely of colored waiters at Hotel Champlain, crossed bats last Saturday with the Beverwycks at Rouses Point, and defeated them, in a closely contested game. A special train was run from Plattsburgh, and over a hundred went up to witness the game.

--A game of ball will be played on the Fair Grounds, Saturday afternoon between the colored nine at Hotel Champlain and the Plattsburgh club. Game will be called at 3 o'clock sharp.

--The Keeseville and Ausable Forks base ball teams, played a game of ball on Tuesday, on the grounds of the latter, which resulted in a score of 17 to 4, in favor of the Keeseville nine.

--The D. & H. will run a special to Rouses Point to-day to convey people to the ball game there between the Beverwycks and Hotel Champlains. The train will leave here at 2 o'clock, and stop at Chazy and West Chazy. Round trip 50 cts.

--The ball game between the Beverwycks and the Hotel Champlains, played at Rouses Point last Saturday, resulted in a score of 9 to 12 in favor of the colored nine. The latter part of the game was a disgraceful affair, and the outcome will be a lawsuit.

--Local base ball players have arranged for a game with the famous colored nine, the Cuban Giants, to be played on the Fair Grounds in Plattsburgh to-morrow.
